Artist Statement
I believe in the interconnectivity of all things. Making art is a way for me to express my spirituality and bring joy to others.
I’ve been doodling since I was a child and have never stopped making art. I’m inspired by the work of women, LGBTQIA+, and underrepresented artists. Any time I’ve had studio space, I’ve found an amazing group of women artists who mentor and support one another.
I start each acrylic painting with a 15-minute meditation. Then I practice Reiki on myself and the canvas. I ask the universe to help me make something beautiful and meaningful for someone else.
Although my work is abstract, some of the pieces begin with a specific memory or experience I want to share. Other pieces are just a happy accident, going where my mood and the colors take me.
I often begin by laying a color in the background, adding a layer of gel medium colors, and adding a clear coat of resin on the top. I use palette knives and other tools to build up the layers. Sometimes, I want to be very aggressive and scrape away to discover what’s below. Other times, I enjoy working with soft, mutual colors.
When a painting is complete, I’m always surprised at what has appeared on the canvas.
